Among thousands of all kinds of applications for mobile devices, for some reason there is still no decent text editor. Microsoft developers tried to solve this problem and created a mobile version of the famous MS Word. Externally, mobile Word is very similar to the initial versions of the desktop office and allows you to create and open files in DOC, DOCX formats, edit and format documents, prepare for printing.

The application is distributed for free, but its activation requires registration in Microsoft cloud services.

The edited document is automatically saved to Microsoft cloud storage. If desired, you can reconfigure saving to the device memory or alternative clouds - Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and others. File management is performed through the sidebar, which can be moved by swiping. Integration with cloud services allows you to share documents and collaborate on projects remotely. Documents in DOC format have to be converted to DOCX for work.

Pros and cons

Among the serious disadvantages is the heavy weight of the application. Installation takes up a decent portion of the already small local memory of the mobile device and limits the ability to install additional applications. Mobile Word is constantly running in the background and exchanging data via the Internet. This reduces the device RAM, slows down the work of programs, and consumes Internet traffic. There is no draft or web document mode, which makes the editing process not very convenient. If you connect an external keyboard to the tablet, mobile Word allows you to work with text documents quite comfortably and productively. Overall, due to the complete lack of alternatives of this level, Word can be called one of the best text editors for mobile devices along with Chinese competitor WPS (King Office).
